Let it be
The sky is still blue today,
just like yesterday,
almost perfectly repeated above me.
Yesterday’s memories
rise in my heart once again,
while hopes for the future
quietly stretch my desires further.
I have been feeling this way
for quite a long time.
Before we meet,
I keep practising what I want to say.
After we meet,
I replay every little detail again and again.
I am afraid that
one day it will all come to an end.
And so anxiety and fear
quietly fill in my mind.
All of this
is only because I want to hold on
to a future that has not arrived yet,
asking it to become exactly
the way I want it to be.
As if I am telling the future:
“Future, please prove to me in advance that you will not hurt me.”
My friend,
you do not have to try so hard to perform.
My friend,
you just feel this moment as it is.
This moment alone is already long enough.
My friend,
life is so much more
than this one thing in front of you.
Look, the afternoon sunlight is gently falling,
shining softly by the window.
Look, the rain has just passed, and somewhere in the distance,
a rainbow is slowly opening all of its colours.
Maybe we are here in this world
simply to feel the warmth of sunlight.
To watch a sunset,
to wait for the tide to rise,
to hear the evening wind pass by,
singing softly for everything around us.
Leaves will eventually turn yellow.
Flowers will eventually fall.
Everything comes and goes,
just as it always has.
I understand you.
You are already strong enough.
Even if sometimes you feel anxious,
sometimes lost,
sometimes unsure of where your next step should go,
let the worry go.
Laugh.
Laugh as much as you want.
My friend,
we are all walking
along a road in the dark,
each of us carrying
a little lamp in our hands.
Maybe it can only light
the next ten metres ahead.
But you stand still,
worrying about what the road
ten kilometres away might look like.
You stand on your toes,
trying desperately to see a little farther.
But the light
simply cannot reach that far.
None of us knows
what will be waiting
ten kilometres ahead
what unexpected things may happen,
or what beautiful surprises may be hidden there.
What we truly have is only these ten metres of light beneath our feet.
So just walk.
Walk the ten metres
in front of you first.
And once you have crossed them,
the next ten metres
will naturally light up.
Everything is uncertain.
Everything is simply
what it is.
So let it come.
Let it become
whatever it is meant to become.
Do not fight it.
Do not fear it.
Do not expect too much from it.
Before this moment slips away,
feel it quietly.
The future may be uncertain,
but the answer
is somewhere along the road.
There is no need
to keep fearing what you might lose,
to hold too tightly to the past,
or to worry too much about the future.
Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is a mystery. And today is the gift we have been given.
That is why it is called the present.
